If you’ve created an interactive map, embedded it on your website, and shared it on social media, you’re probably interested in understanding how users interact with your map.
Mapme offers analytics reports similar to the website traffic reports you’re already familiar with. These reports provide insights into your visitors’ interactions on your maps.
Analytics reports are available in Google Analytics 4 (GA4) or Looker Studio. We’ve created a step-by-step guide on how to generate analytical reports for all user interactions on your map with Google Analytics 4.
This guide assumes that you have completed the custom definitions set-up and successfully tested with real-time reports.
Build your map analytics reports
Google Analytics 4 does not include predefined reports for custom dimensions. However, GA4 offers a great feature called Explore that allows you to build custom reports.
Once you have built your first custom report, creating additional reports will be quick and easy.
Reports for all map interactions
This report will display the number of times each type of interaction occurred on the map, such as clicks on markers, calls to action, and social shares.
To begin, click “Explore” on the left side of the GA4 interface, and start a new Blank exploration.
- In the Dimensions, select all 4 Mapme custom dimensions and click Import
- In the Metrics. select “Event count” and click import
- For Visualizations, select the table
- In the Row section, select “Mapme Actions” and set “Show rows” to 50
- In the Values section, select “Event count”

That’s it. You will now see a table displaying the count for all the different types of user interactions.

We recommend you set up a filter to remove all the “no set” events. Those are events that have not been assigned to a specific interaction. This is not a must but will make your reports cleaner. In the filter section, set the following filter:

Create a report with the number of clicks per marker
You can now quickly create additional reports. For instance, we will create a report showing the number of clicks for each marker.
We recommend you duplicate one of your existing reports instead of starting from scratch. Make sure you give each report a meaningful name.

To create the marker’s click report:
- In the Row section, select “Mapme Values”
- In the filter, set the filter to display on “map-section-marker-click” only

Multimap account
If you have a Mapme account with multiple maps, there are several options to display the data for each map.
- You can add the “Mapme Maps” dimension in the column section
- You can create a filter based on the “Mapme Maps” dimension set to the map ID
These are just a few examples of map analytics reports that you can create with Explore. We recommend experimenting and playing around with the settings.
