How to Import with the Mapme Template

1. Generate a Template

We recommend generating your template based on your current map setup:

  • Add a few locations manually in the editor
  • Go to the Import & Export tab and click Export to download the template

Alternatively, use one of our ready-made templates:

2. Add Your Data

Fill in your location data using the template.
🔹 The order of locations and categories in the file will define their order on the map.
🔹 Save your file as Excel (.xlsx) or CSV (UTF-8).

Important:

  • Do not rename the column headers in the template.
  • For Excel files, your data must be on the first sheet.

3. Upload Your File

  • Click on the import area or drag your file into the uploader.

4. Review Your Data

After upload, you’ll see your data displayed in a preview table.
Make sure:

  • All fields are correctly matched
  • Data appears under the correct column

5. Select Import Mode

Choose one of the following:

  • Add – Adds new locations without affecting existing ones.
  • Sync – Replaces all current locations with the new file (⚠️ irreversible).

6. Finalize the Import

Click Import to complete the process.
⏱ Importing may take up to 2 minutes depending on file size and media content.

Including Metadata in Your Export

You can also include additional metadata fields in your export. This is useful when you want to review when locations were created, when they were last updated, or link directly to each location.

To include metadata, enable the Include Metadata option before exporting.

When enabled, the export includes the following additional fields:

  • Creation Date – The date and time the location was created.
  • Last Update – The date and time the location was last modified.
  • Location URL – The public URL of the location.

All metadata dates are exported in UTC time.
