With Mapme, you can fully customize the markers on your map to match your project’s look and feel.
Ways to Control Markers
You can decide which markers show up in three different ways:
- By category – all locations in a category share the same marker
- By location – give individual locations their own marker
- One marker for the whole map – apply the same style everywhere
Category markers
Every location in a category can share one marker style. You set this up in the category settings page.
Location markers
Want a specific location to stand out? You can override the category marker and set a unique one.
Example: Use a sponsor’s logo to highlight their location.
To do this, open the location and go to Marker Style Customization.

Single map marker
Prefer a consistent look? You can set one marker for the entire map.
Go to Settings → Markers, enable Marker Override, and choose your marker design.
Marker Customization Options
There are two main ways to create markers:
- Built-in markers – design markers using Mapme’s marker generator
- Image markers – upload your own images or logos

- Marker size – Default is 35px. Adjust from 15px to 150px.

Image Markers
Want more flexibility? Upload your own images (logo, icon, or photo) as markers.
- Recommended size – Square images up to 150px × 150px
- Default size – 35px × 35px (adjustable from 15px to 150px)
- File types – PNG, JPEG, WebP, or SVG (PNG/WebP/SVG support transparency)

Halo and pop-up color
When a user selects a location, the marker gets a halo and shows a pop-up.
On desktop, this also works when you hover over the marker.
By default, Mapme picks a halo color based on the image, but you can override it and pick your own.
