It works alongside Map Content Search, which searches the locations you’ve added to your map using keywords. If no matching map content is found, Address & Place Search automatically steps in to help users find nearby places.

How Address & Place Search Works
Fallback Search Behavior
Address & Place Search acts as a fallback. It is triggered only when Map Content Search does not return any matching results.
Supported Search Inputs
Users can search using a wide range of location-based inputs, including:
- Full or partial street addresses
- ZIP or postal codes
- City or town names
- Place and business names (for example, “Starbucks”)
Up to 5 of the most relevant results are displayed for each search.
Search Area Limits
To keep results relevant, Address & Place Search is limited to a defined geographic area based on your map configuration:
- Default behavior: Search for addresses, zip codes, or place names within the currently visible area of the map.
- Custom boundaries: You can manually define map boundaries. When set, searches are restricted to this area regardless of the map’s current visible view.
This helps prevent irrelevant results. For example, searching for “Paris” on a map focused on France will exclude results such as “Paris, Texas.”
Search Flow
- User enters a search term. The user types an address, place name, or keyword into the map’s search bar.
- Search logic
- The system first searches the Map Content — the locations you added to the map, including names and addresses.
- If no matches are found, Address & Place Search is triggered to search a broader geographic database.
- User selects a result. The user chooses a location from the Address & Place Search results.
- Map response
- The map recenters on the selected location.
- The visible map area adjusts based on the Search Area Radius setting (default: 50 km).
- A marker is placed at the selected location.
- The location list updates to show map content locations currently visible on screen, sorted by distance from the selected place.
Customization Options

Search Area Radius
Define the radius (in kilometers or miles) around the selected address or place that will be displayed on the map.
This controls how much area is shown after a user selects a search result.
Default: 50 km
Example: Setting this to 25 km zooms the map to show a 25 km radius around the selected location.
Display Distance to Locations
When enabled, each visible map location is displayed with its distance from the selected address or place.
Locations are sorted by proximity, starting with the closest.
- Supports both metric (kilometers, meters) and imperial (miles, feet) units.
- Distance values can be styled using custom CSS to match your map design.

Search Result Marker Customization
- By default, Address & Place Search results use the standard map pin marker.
