Add a search box to your map

You can add a search box to your interactive map to help visitors quickly and easily discover your map content.
The search field is located in the top toolbar of the map content panel.

Mapme provides three types of searches:

  1. Map Content Search: Searches the text content of your locations. This guide covers this type in detail.
  2. Address & Place Search: A location-based search that lets users find addresses or place names within the currently visible map area. Learn more.
  3. Cross-Map Search: Search across multiple maps within the same account. Learn more.

When users enter a keyword, matching locations are immediately displayed in a results list sorted by relevance.
The map automatically adjusts its zoom and center to include all matching results.

What Map Content is Searched?

The search engine looks at the text content of your map locations, including:

  • Title
  • Description
  • Addresses
  • Image captions and credits

Locations with “Display content” disabled are excluded from search results.

Search Engine Behavior

Users must enter at least 3 characters to return results.

Mapme uses a fuzzy search algorithm to find approximate matches and rank results by relevance.

For an exact keyword search, users can wrap the term in quotes (e.g., "New York").

Search Placeholder Hint

You can add a placeholder hint in the search box to guide your map viewers. For example: “Search by country name” or “Type a landmark or address”.

Go to Settings → Search → Keyword Search and enable the feature.

Map search results depend on the quality of your content. To improve search relevance:

  • Use descriptive titles for all locations
  • Write clear, informative descriptions
  • Include captions and credits for images

Open your map settings, go to the Search section, and toggle on “Add Map Search.”

Titles, descriptions, addresses, and image captions/credits of locations with “Display content” enabled.

How does the search engine work?

Map Content Search uses fuzzy matching to return relevant results. Users must enter at least 3 characters. For an exact match, wrap the term in quotes (e.g., “New York”).

Yes. You can display a hint such as “Search by country name” or “Type a landmark or address.”

How can I improve search results?

Use descriptive titles, informative descriptions, and image captions for all locations to ensure better relevance.
