Cross-Map Search

Cross-Map Search allows users to find locations across multiple maps within the same Mapme account.

Instead of searching only the currently open map, users can discover relevant results from other related maps.

This is especially useful when your maps are connected by a common theme — for example, a campus map with separate maps for each building, or a city guide split into neighborhoods.

You have full control over which maps in your account participate in Cross-Map Search.

Try Cross-Map Search Live

Test Cross-Map Search on this interactive map by searching for “106” to see classroom results from multiple buildings across different maps.

For each map you want to include:

  1. Go to Settings → Search → Cross-Map Ssearch
  2. Enable “Include this map in cross-map search”

Once enabled, this map’s locations can appear as search results when users search from other maps in the same account.

You can also customize the marker icon used to represent results coming from other maps in the search results panel.

How Cross-Map Search Works

When a user performs a keyword search, results are retrieved from:

  • The currently open map
  • All other maps in the account that have Cross-Map Search enabled

Search Results Display

Each result is displayed using the following format:

Map Name – Location Name

Example:

Business School – Classroom 105

Results that come from other maps are marked with an external link icon, indicating that the location belongs to a different map.

Sort Order

Search results are sorted by relevance.
Locations from the currently open map are prioritized and appear first, followed by results from other maps.

Map View Behavior

If search results include locations from the current map, the map view adjusts to fit those locations.

If the search results include only locations from other maps, the map will automatically zoom and center to include all returned results.

Use Case Example

A university campus has multiple buildings — faculties, administration, and dormitories — with a separate map for each building.
Each building map provides a detailed view, including floor plans for individual floors.

When a user opens the Computer Science building map on their mobile phone, they can search for a classroom located in the Business School building.
Even though the classroom is not part of the current map, it still appears in the search results.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why use multiple connected maps instead of one large map?

Using multiple maps lets you organize complex content into clear, focused views.
Each map can represent a building, area, or category, making it easier to manage data, improve clarity for users, and keep maps fast and readable.
Cross-Map Search connects these maps, so users can still find everything from a single search.

Is Cross-Map Search fast?

Yes. Cross-Map Search is designed for high performance and returns results almost instantly, even when searching across many maps.

There is no limit. You can include as many maps as needed, as long as Cross-Map Search is enabled for them.
