While Mapme offers a diverse gallery of attractive map styles, some projects may require unique, custom-designed map styles. This guide will walk you through the process of importing your own custom map styles to your Mapme account.
Understanding Custom Map Styles
Custom map styles allow you to tailor the visual presentation of your map to specific requirements. For example, you can adjust color schemes and fonts to align with your brand identity. See example.
Creating Custom Map Styles
You can create custom map styles using basemap editors such as:
- MapTiler Map Designer
- ESRI ArcGIS Style Editor
- Stadia Maps with Maputnik
- Mapbox Studio
While basic customization is relatively straightforward, advanced modifications may require GIS expertise. For beginners, we recommend reviewing our comparison of MapTiler and Mapbox. Alternatively, our professional services team can assist in creating your custom map style.
Adding Custom Map Styles to Your Mapme Account
To import your custom map style:
- Navigate to Settings > Basemap
- Select the ‘CUSTOM’ option
- Enter the required information as detailed below
Your custom style will then appear in the preview. Any subsequent changes to your custom style will automatically reflect in your Mapme account.

Platform-Specific Instructions
MapTiler
- Enter the URL for your MapTiler vector style, including the access token:

ESRI ArcGIS
- Enter your custom style URL with the style ID and token.
- The style ID can be found in the URL of the Vector Tile Style Editor or in the ArcGIS Online style page details.
Example URL format for ESRI ArcGIS:
https://basemapstyles-api.arcgis.com/arcgis/rest/services/styles/v2/styles/{style_id}?type=style&token={ACCESS_TOKEN}
Replace {style_id} with your actual style ID and {ACCESS_TOKEN} with your access token.
Mapbox Studio
- Enter your Style URL and Access Token separately.
- These can be found in Mapbox Studio (see provided screenshot).
- Note: you will need to configure your Mapbox styles for use with Mapme.
