You can create curved lines in two ways: manually or with the built-in curve (Bezier) tool.
1. Manual Method
- Click several points close together to form a curve.
- Great for short, detailed paths (for example, following a street).
- On large areas, the curve may look less smooth.
2. Built-in Curve Tool (Bezier)
The curve tool automatically creates smooth curves—perfect for long paths like flight routes, rivers, or borders.
How to use the curve tool
- Select the Line tool.
- Activate curve mode:
- Windows: Hold Alt.
- Mac: Hold Option.
- While still holding the key, click and hold the mouse on the map to place the starting point. Two guide lines (handles) appear.
- Keep holding the key and the mouse button, then drag the handles to set the curve’s angle and direction.
- Release the mouse button (and the key) when the segment looks right.
- Click once to place the next point of the curved line. Repeat from step 2 for additional segments.
Editing curves
- Click any point (node) on the curve to adjust its shape.

Example: Draw a Flight Path
- Select the Line tool.
- Hold Alt/Option and click near the departure airport.
- Extend the guide lines roughly toward the midpoint between departure and destination, slightly above or below to create the arc.
- Release Alt/Option, then click near the destination airport to set the next point.
- Adjust the handles or points until the path looks smooth.
You now have a clean, smooth flight path on your map.
