Ever need to highlight countries, states, or cities on your map? The Mapme Geo Library makes this easy. Instead of drawing borders yourself or importing KML, you can add pre-made borders of places like:
- Individual states like California or Texas
- Major cities like New York or London
- Even smaller areas like counties or neighborhoods
Like other drawing layers in Mapme, you can fully customize these drawings with:
- Visibility and interactivity controls
- Custom styling options like line width, color, transparency, and more.
- Edit capabilities
Available Boundary Types
The library provides administrative boundaries for:
- Countries
- Regions (states and provinces)
- Counties
- Cities
- Neighborhoods
In many locations, results may include two types of boundaries:
- Land borders: Boundary segments that run on land.
- Maritime borders: Boundary segments that run through water areas such as oceans, seas, rivers, or lakes.

How to Use
Adding Areas to Your Map
- Search for an area:
- Enter the area name in the search field
- Select the appropriate area type (country, city, etc.)
- Click the Search button
- Review search results, which include:
- Full area name
- Country and region abbreviations
- Click the + button to add the selected boundary to your map

Tips for Searching the Geo Library
The library is vast, so here are some tips to help narrow your search:
- Use the Area Type Filter: Limit your results to specific types of administrative areas (e.g., only cities or countries).
- Set the Preview Area: Adjust the map preview to focus on the relevant geographic region for your search.
If “Limit search to visible map” is enabled, search results will be limited to areas fully visible within the current map view.
Tips for Customizing Drawing Styles
By default, places added through the Geo Library appear as shapes with a customizable fill color. If you prefer to display areas with only a border and no fill, enable the “Outline Mode”. This allows you to adjust the border’s width and style, such as using a dashed line to outline a country. Learn more about customizing map drawing styles.
