Interactive maps contain valuable content that can be indexed by search engines and utilized by AI chatbots, helping to drive organic traffic to your map.
Search Engine Indexing Control
Mapme maps are designed to be SEO-friendly, meaning they can be found on the web—if you choose to allow it. You also have the option to block indexing for privacy.
What Does SEO-Friendly Mean?
By default, when you publish a map, its content can be discovered and indexed by search engines. However, Mapme does not actively submit maps to search engines. For a map to be indexed, you should:
- Embed the map in a public webpage
- Link to it from a public webpage
- Manually submit the map URL to a search engine
How to Block Search Engine Indexing
If your map contains sensitive or private information, or if you prefer it not to be discoverable, you can block search engines from indexing it.
To disable search indexing:
- Go to Share > Search Engine Indexing
- Disable the “Searchable on the Web” option

Please note: If your map has already been indexed by search engines, disabling the “Searchable on the Web” option will not remove it instantly. Search engines need to recrawl the page for the change to take effect, and deindexing may take anywhere from a few days to a few weeks.
What Content is Indexed?
Only the content available on the public URL is indexed. In most cases, this includes:
- Map URL
- Map title
- Map description
- Category names and descriptions
- Location names, descriptions and addresses
How to Optimize Your Map for Search Engines
Follow these best practices to improve search engine visibility:
- Use a friendly URL with relevant keywords
- Add a clear and descriptive title
- Include a short and informative description
Note: You don’t have to display the title or description on your map, but they are crucial for SEO.

Frequently Asked Questions
1. Can anyone find my map on Google?
Your map can appear in search results only if it is publicly accessible and you allow search indexing. Private or indexing-disabled maps cannot be discovered or crawled.
2. Will Mapme automatically submit my map to Google?
No. Mapme does not submit maps to search engines. Indexing happens only when your map is publicly linked, embedded, or manually submitted.
3. If I block indexing, will people with the link still access my map?
Yes. Blocking indexing prevents search engines from listing the page, but anyone with the direct URL can still access it.
4. How long does it take for Google to index or remove my map?
Indexing and deindexing timelines depend entirely on search engines. Changes may take anywhere from a few hours to a few weeks.
5. Does disabling indexing remove my map from Google instantly?
No. Google must recrawl the page. Deindexing usually happens during the next crawl cycle.
6. Is map SEO different from website SEO?
Yes. Map SEO depends on the map’s URL, content quality, relevance, and links pointing to it. It does not use Mapme’s embedding code for ranking.
7. Can AI chatbots access my map content?
Yes, if your map is public and indexing is enabled. Disabling indexing reduces visibility to search engines and AI crawlers.
