How Marker and Layer Order Works on Your Interactive Map

Mapme gives you control over the order in which markers and other elements appear on your interactive maps. This is especially useful when markers overlap or are located close together.

Marker stacking order across categories

When markers from different categories overlap, the category order determines which markers appear on top.

  • Markers from categories at the top of the category list are displayed above markers from categories lower in the list.
  • Markers from categories at the bottom of the category list are displayed underneath markers from categories above them.

Example: If your category order is:

  1. Restaurants
  2. Parks
  3. Hotels

Then, if markers overlap:

  • Restaurant markers will appear on top of all other markers.
  • Park markers will appear above Hotels but below Restaurants.
  • Hotel markers will appear underneath the other categories.

Marker display order within the same category

Within a category, the location order determines which markers appear on top.

  • Locations at the top of the location list are displayed above locations below them.
  • Locations lower in the list are displayed underneath the locations above them.

Display order of other map elements

From top to bottom, map elements are displayed in the following order:

  1. Markers, including their halos and popups
  2. Layer popups
  3. Overlay layers (drawings, images, and text), based on their layer order
  4. 3D buildings
  5. Paths connecting markers
