Publish and update your map

Draft and Published Maps

When you begin working on a new map, it’s initially in “Draft” mode and visible only to you and your team within the Mapme editor. You’ll notice that the map is marked as “Draft” in your account dashboard.

Whenever you’re ready, you can make your map accessible on the web by simply clicking the “Publish” button. Once published, your map will be labeled as “Published” in your account dashboard.

However, it’s important to note that publishing your map doesn’t automatically make it publicly accessible. The map’s URL includes a unique key, ensuring that only users with the specific map URL can view it.

When you’re prepared to share your map with others, you have several options:

  1. Embed on a Website: You can add your map to your website, allowing visitors to view it.
  2. Social Networks: Share the map on platforms like Facebook, Twitter, and more.
  3. Email and Marketing: Include the map’s URL in your emails or marketing campaigns to reach your audience.

Publishing Changes

When you make changes to your map, you can see those changes in the editor.

However, these changes won’t be reflected in the published version of the map until you decide to commit them. To do this, click the “Publish” button.

Maps that have been modified but haven’t had the latest changes published will be marked with a ‘modified’ tag in your account dashboard.

If your map is embedded on your website or shared on social media, you won’t need to modify the embed code or reshare it.

Publishing Process

Upon clicking the “Publish” button, you’ll see a spinner wheel indicating that the publishing process is underway.

While it may take up to 2 minutes for the changes to propagate throughout the entire Content Delivery Network (CDN), typically, you’ll notice the updated version on the Published map within just a few seconds.

Archiving and Deleting Maps

You have the option to delete or archive maps that you no longer want to be publicly accessible.

When you Delete a map, all map data, including associated media, will be permanently removed.

On the other hand, archiving a map will unpublish it, rendering it invisible outside of the editor.

You can also unarchive a map and make it public again if needed. Learn more about Archived Maps.
